The Maurel 2007 of the Winery Can Bonastre, a Chardonnay 100 % with six months of aging in cask, has received this month four new international medals, which add to the received ones previously for the same wine. The Medal of Silver from International Wine & Spiris Competition 2009 and the Medal of Bronze granted by the prestigious magazine Decanter at Decanter World Wine Awards, announced last May during the London Wine Fair, the Bronze Medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and another Bronze in the International Wine Challenge.
The Maurel 2007 belongs to the top range of Can Bonastre’s wines and has a limited production of 7.000 bottles. The grapes are cultivated, as all the Can Bonastre’s wines, in a clay loam soil with small slate-like pieces, following a conservation process to achieve a better quality. The fermentation is carried out in casks of French oak for one month, and the aging, in the same casks for 6 months.
The Maurel has a Golden yellow colour and highly intense aroma of tropical fruits, white flowers and memories of dried fruits. In mouth has an excellent balance with an acidity that makes it long. Aromas of dried fruits that make it very persistent in your mouth stand out retronasally.
